I can only guess what you're alluding to, but most likely it's the "Resume" feature in Lion. When you quit an application that has document windows open, those same windows will reopen automatically the next time you launch it. To keep that from happening, close the windows before quitting, or else hold down the option key while quitting, or the shift key while launching the application.

Sorry I wasn't clear. It's the home page of Safari that comes up in duplicates, not documents. I checked that I had the latest Safari version for my iMac OS X and I do. This just started happening.
Additionally, I keep getting notices from Comcast about free anti-virus software even though I already downloaded it. That opens a software screen. I had called Comcast and they didn't know how to fix that. That's why I wondered if the Safari issue was also a Comcast problem.

Close all windows, then quit and relaunch Safari. It should open one window to your home page. Is that not what happens? If not, what is the setting for Safari > Preferences > General > New windows open with...?
The Comcast notice is a marketing scam. If you installed the software, I advise you to remove it. It's worse than useless. It's free initially, which is appropriate for a worthless product, but you'll be charged for "upgrades" later.

You are wonderful to tell me about the comcast software. I shall trash as you suggest.
Normally, Safari does open only one home page. But frequently as of the last few days, more than one opens. I shall check preferences.
Thank you so much!
