The new update is supposed to control duplicate photos being put into your iphotos, but how do you get rid of the ones already duplicated?  I have 10 duplicates of hundreds of my photos.  It says I have 4 thousand photos when I actually have around 800. It is not allowing back up to I cloud because of it... I enjoy the apps and have put time and money into it so I don't really want to delete. It. Any ideas would be appreciated .

Once you have updated iPhoto I believe you can quit iPhoto and reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. When you restart iPhoto for iOS the duplicates should be removed.

Thanks Ralph, but where as I have no new duplicates the ten copies of the originals are still there... I even tried your idea twice :/  ... Any other ideas ?

The day the update to iPhoto for iOS was released there was a question from different user asking about the same thing, how to get rid of duplicate posts. I recall that they were able to go it but unfortunately I do not remember justs how. I thought it wasa reboot but since that did not help you they may have done something else. Perhaps if you search this forum you will find that thread.

Also check the "More like this" section in the right column of this window, the post might just turn up there.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

The directions for deleting photos are in the iPhoto Help but I think the confusion is with the two names.  There is the iPad Photo app and the iPhoto app.  I wanted to delete the duplicate, of which I had as many as 22 of one photo and 10-15 of others.  I went into the regular IPad Photo app, selected the Photo bar, pictures drop down, tapped the curved arrow button in upper right, tapped the "original" photo, hit red delete button.  A drop down box appeared and gave a clear warning that the selected deletion would occur in all albums as well as this Photo collection. Practice with the mos unnecessary photo as it disappears everywhere.  Close this iPad Photo app.  Open the iPhoto app.  In about 3-5 seconds the updating Library window appears in the center and the blue bar shows the updating. Check the Photos there and you'll see that they are gone. I had 1850 photos on the regular Photo app that grew to 2697 photos in the iPhoto app.  Unfortunately they are gone in any Albums you've created in both Photo apps.  I hope this helps.

       My questions are:

         1.  Why the duplication.  I just use camera connector kit to download ( upload ) my images from camera.  Create my Albums for the iPad and Facebook.  I didn't have this problem until 2-3 weeks ago after 4 months of creating Albums with just the regular Photo app.  The problems appeared after purchasing the iPhoto app.   What is causing the cloning photos?

          2.  For memory space why can't I, and everyone else just delete photos within the iPhoto app.  Right now I'm doing my photography on the iPad independent of my computer.  I want to do what I term, field photography, doing all the work while traveling with my camera, connector kit and my iPad.  Why the deletion in the Albums created.  perhaps a separate iPhoto app for people like me who just want to do their photography on the iPad only.

If I'm missing something please help and inform me.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Actually, Dan here.  I am now in the process of attempting to put the important photos back onto the iPad to add them to the Albums in which they were deleted. Doing it very carefully.    Thankfully most were not used in my best Albums and won't be missed.  Also, sorry for the grammar. As I read my post, Sr. Mary Rosita, my excellent 7th Grade English teacher, whispered down to me from above regarding the forgetfulness on my part for not putting ? where grammatically necessary.

    Thanks,

    Dan

I've got a reservation at Apple Store, Thursday, AM.  I've gone from 1800 photo images 3 days ago to 3100+ today.  Yikes!  It's digital cloning.  Hope all is clear.  My above solution only worked for a short time.  Even if they fix it, I think I'll let iPhoto for iPads go for a good amount of time.  Just no confidence.  I did like it.  Editing tools were great.  Ease of making Albums was nice.  Good luck to all.

Dan here again.  I went to Salem, NH Apple Store today.  Caesar, helped me tremendously with the   above problem.  Knowing that I could lose some, none or all photographs, we proceeded to uninstall the iPhoto app and install the same iPhoto app again from the App Store.  The iPhoto app description now includes the phrase, "Addresses an issue that could cause duplicate photos to appear in the Photos view."  Language is not guaranteeing a full fix but shows they have addressed the problem.  Keep in mind that my duplication just started 5 days ago after almost 3 months of having and using it on a regular basis with no problems.

The app installed.  Albums, Photos, Events were back but photos not in order as before.  Project for another time.  My two Journals had disappeared.  Experimental so will recreate.  I now have approximately the same number of images as in the regular iPad Photo. No duplicates.  Hope it stays that way.  it's been a real learning experience.  Good luck to anyone who has this problem.  Thanks to Caesar at Apple Store in Salem, NH.

You must be bored with me by now.  I'm a novice at this, but I like an app to work.  This one, iPhoto app for iPad simply stated, does not.  I went to Apple Store in Salem, NH today at 2:30 PM.  No appointment but they graciously met with me about this ongoing problem.  After working on Albums in regular iPad Photos, since fix yesterday, I went into the iPhoto app.  The library updated.  Some photos duplicated.  That's why I went to Apple Store today.  I deleted the iPhoto app twice more, deleted a photo in regular Photo, switched to iPhoto photos and multiples repeatedly occurred.   Each time I uninstalled the iPhoto app and reinstalled it.  Anytime an update occurred the photos in iPhoto Photos View multiplied randomly throughout.

Kristin helped explain things to me twice.  She conferred with people behind the "curtain."  A Wizzard of Oz reference.  In fact withCaesar. I was told that, in my words that there might be a corruption in iPad software with iPhoto software causing the duplication problem.  I could have my iPad software wiped clean and a clean, new onereinstalled.  But I would lose all data.  I said I'd like to think about it.  I thought about it and didn't want to entertain the thought of putting all that information, music, pictures, Albums created with the regular iPad app, notes, etc. because of a $10 app.  I thank Kristen, et al, for their help.  But I can't help but wonder after meeting with them, are all the other dozens of people who have and are experiencing this problem, all having corruption problems within our individual iPads?  I decided to delete the iPhoto app for iPad permanently, chalk all this up to experience and use the regular app on the iPad.  I really did like the iPhoto app, the Editing features are great, used it without incident since March 9, 2012 until 5-6 days ago.  People at Apple Store were very helpful to me, thanks.  Time to move on.  Hopefully the iPhone app improves in the future for future users.  BTW, I purchased the $9.99 app.

    Thanks,

    Dan

I did not want to replace all the data removed.
