Key repeat for alpha characters has been replaced by a popup system for special characters. For example, hold down the e key, and after a moment a popup will appear -
which allows the quick selection of various special forms for the e character.
To forward delete, hold down the Function ("fn") key and press the Delete key.
thankyou for tinkertool I have e mailed the person who persuaded me to buy a mac mini, she has worked for oracle and other high flying computer firms and has told me I must not download anything until she has checked what I am doing!!! good advice from her as I am a novice to mac
if you are interested I now need to know how to screen dump and overwrite
I know this is all simple stuff to all you experts but I am used to microsoft which I think is an apt word soft???
I really am pleased I moved to mac I like everything about it but am going slightly bonkers because it is so different to what I am used to so sorry if I am looking incredibly thick
Linda, glad you're enjoying your Mac. That's good advice for your friend to check out programs before you load them. I think she'll find Tinkertool is safe as it only turns on or off the hidden options in the OS. It doesn't modify the OS in any way.
When you say screen dump and overwrite, I'm guessing you're talking about taking screen snapshots using these keys:
By default they save on the desktop with the date/time naming convention. You can use the Control key with the sequence and they will be placed in the clipboard rather than the desktop. (then you can use paste to insert in a document).
You can also use Tinkertool to alter the location that the snapshots are stored in.
Edit: fix bad english
looking good my guru has downloaded Tinker Tool and says it ok have found your screen in keyboard shortcuts and will get on to it tommorow, I cannot thank you enough for your help, will work out what OS is
I live by the sea I am sure its not what we will call off shore, wind !!!! lots to learn but I will get there
Can I get back to you for any more help??? is that allowed on i chat??
hurray my keyboard is repeatinggggggggg Tinker Tool is brilliant and screen shot works but a bit trickey multi fingered
is there any way to make it a single key depression on the function key
made my mouse flash around cannot stand it moving slowly around the screen!!! getting into system preferences and doing alot of looking and leaning all takes time!!!!
so mamouth progress and but still not happy my printer an old hp 6122 I used to be able to with microsoftyyy adjust printing best (photgraphs) normal and draft but now I have just print and it is using up alot of ink!!! not very green so I will battle on perhaps I need to download a new program or something
The printer should have a draft mode in the dialog. It's just buried, Do a File > Print > in the print dialog click Show Details.
Then click the dropdown that has the line running across the box. It should initially show the program you're printing from. Select Paper Type/Quality. Then in the Quality dropdown, select draft. You can also select the advanced options and set the amount of ink to use.
At the bottom of this screen is a triangle with color options. Click the triangle and it will expand with options to print just in B/W.
I would probably be best to make a new post with new questions, that way more people with expertise in the issue will respond. I'll follow your userid so I get a message when you post a new question. If I'm available I'll try to help.
Happy Memorial Day!!
thanks for reply opps screen you have shown me does not look anything like mine so what I will do is start a new discussion and attempt (might take a bit of thinking about add a screen dump) which I think I have got
