May 27, 2012 9:03 PM in response to maxlf079by Kittykatk8,iFixit is a wonderful resource for DIY repairs, but it might be cheaper/simpler to simply replace the inverter cable itself. In case I've linked the wrong model, be sure to use the ID your mac bit of the site.

Additionally, I had this problem before, if the backlight does still at least stay on a couple minutes, it's more likely a bad update. Have you taken it to the mac store? They'll often just stick a boot disc in for you to fix that up for free.
