Is it possible to run say x6 Airport Express devices to various zones in the house? and can i run multiple sources too? e.g. say i want U2 playing in the kitchen, but i also want metallica playing in a bedroom and so on? Can this also be controlled by multiple apple remotes such as an ipad for the parents, yet kids can control their own rooms by their own iphone/ipads?

I have five AX units, so multiple devices are definitly possible. BUT, at six devices you will likely be above the limit for wireless connectivity. Three of mine are Ethernet and two wireless, so I don't have that problem. If you are going to connect all six wirelessly you may be able to get around the wireless limit by using some of the AX devices to create a wifi network on a different frequency -- if your main wifi is "g" then use an ax to create an "n" network and share the load. I'd be happier to see no more than three or four on wifi.

We share the AX units regularly. I'll address the two in my bedroom and dressing room via itunes and control it with remote. My daughter will do the same from her iTunes and remote in her bedroom And the family room can use pandora via iPad for example.

    So yes, very doable

It will work... Make sure you name each express properly so the airplay options are obviouse.

Hackintosh -- far be it from me to second guess a level 4 user, but given the number of complaints of airplay dropping out aren't you concerned over the possibility that 6 AX units might be connected wirelessly?

Well, he was asking if it was possible for the 6 clients. Which on paper it is. My main worry is that we are talking about 802.11N here and not some obsolete G-type series, etc.  WDS is not my idea of anything reliable here.

HOWEVER, good point. If we got multiples of iPads and iPhones, this could indeed cause some complications with the max-limit of the clients... which currently is listed as 10. However, multiple sources have shown this just to be a safe-limit and not a true limit.

Worse comes to worse.... we can try to re-configure it differenently.

An ipad, indeed any iOS device, can only stream to one airport at a time

There was a backdoor way using airfoil and airfoil speakers but apple has taken it off the app store.

So as of now, now. Your itunes on your computer will speak to multiple AX units, just not an iOS device

Found kind of a way around it. Can use the remote from appstore to play the music from the itunes on my computer and get the same options in the remote as i can in itunes... Not as good as it could be, but it works.. They sould put it in a update. Thanks for you help...

Yes, but I thought you were asking only about streaming from an iOS device to AX units. Remote works very well, good app
