You do not have to register a credit card to sync music imported from CD's if you have such music in iTunes. So the answer is no - you don't need a credit card to sync, but other than email settings and contacts - and any imported music that you already have - what do you expect to sync.
You create an Apple ID and attach a credit card to the ID so that you can buy content from iTunes. You can create an Apple ID without a credit card as well and just download free content.
The WiFi sync selection is in iTunes. You have to connect your iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Then you click on the iPad name on the left side under the devices heading. Then you can click on each of the tabs in iTunes - Summary, Info, Apps, Music, Photos, etc. and make your selections.
This shows wher the WiFi sync option is in iTunes. Your iPad must be connected to your computer with iTunes running and the iPad selected on the eft in order to see the iPad in iTunes.
Contacts, I downloaded some to the IPad. Not all came through. I figure I have more recent ones in Google and we just went to gooogle last Sept. after always using Outlook explorer or just Outlook. As you can read, i am so confused. Just want to get all of this simplified with the Apple product. How do I download the Google Contact List. I do not see it. Just happened on other long list before: there was another page beyond options, I believe.
Also, explain encrypting and should I ever do so. Thank you for explaining all of this.
You should be able to sync your Google Contacts in the Info Tab of iTunes. Click on the info tab and look under the sync contacts heading. Select the Google address book and make sure that the Sync Contatcs heading spis checked and sync - or click on apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
Do not encrypt your backup just yet. That will give you one more thing to worry about right now. You can encrypt your backup with a password and if you ever want to restore from a backup, you will need to know the password. I don't encrypt my backups. I know many users do, but nobody else uses my computer so I don't feel that I have the need to encrypt the backup.
I'm not sure what you are talking about with reference to the "page beyond options". Can you explain in more detail?
If I could only find the Info Tab, I would not have a problem; however, when I go to Itunes.com, the webpage does not have tabs. i am not working from a MAC. Does that make a difference. I am connected to my IPad.
So sorry for this problem. Monieap
As long as you are not running Linux you are OK. Windows or Mac will work.
You have to launch the program iTunes not go to the website for this. Do you have iTunes on your computer? Maybe that is where we are missing the boat.
Go to that site and download iTunes if you do not have it.

I have all downloaded. Just saw a note that if I do not have a podcast, I will not get the menu with summary and info. Yes I have the guide downloaded onto my IPad. So, I have to download something from Itunes first. Right?
No you don't need a podcast - at least as far as I know. I didn't have a podcast for ages and still had the summary and info tabs. What happens with iTunes is say for instance that you have no music in your iTunes library on your computer - you will not see the music tab at the top of the iTunes window on the right side. It works that way with all content in the iTunes library - or lack of content. No content in iTunes means no tab at the top for that content.
You should have a Summary tab at the very least and since you asked about Contacts, and if you have email accounts and contacts on your computer, you should certainly see the Info Tab as well. The Summary tab has to be there since that is the "starting point" so to speak for your iDevice.
So .... If you downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6 on your computer .... Connect your iPad to your computer with the cable that came with the iPad - and start the iTunes program on the computer - if it does not start automatically. I am guessing that iTunes will start when you connect the iPad to the computer because that is the way it should work by default.
After iTunes is running (with your iPad connected by the cable), see if iTunes syncs automatically or post any messages that you get when you are connected.
You have been a great help. I have a friend coming into town who is a user.
I think ITunes did sync automatically.
And the contacts did transfer, those I had with Microsoft or whatever but not those in Google. That is what
I am trying to do, get them transferred.
This little IPad is fabulous. I have had frustration Plus for 4 years with my HP laptop, had Geeks work on it for hours and still problems.
Thank you, may write again to you in a day or two.
I see the info tab. Do not see google addresses.
What about document syncing.
I read about icloud. it that where I would sync my documents
My friend says that as soon as she registered there, she got everything.
should I register icloud.
