Thanks for the good info Tom.  I'm rather annoyed with myself for assuming there would be an ibooks reader, of some sort, on my pc.  I've recently paid for several ibooks, each in the $25-$40 range, and can now only read them on my iphone or wife's ipad.  It's so disappointing that, when I travel, I am unable to access these books on my laptop.

    Caveat Emptor!

Thanks it worked like a charm not sure if something changed recently but it worked for me. I left my IPad at work and this saved the day. But, lesson learned all future ebooks will come from other sources. THANKS

Alright I'm back and have discovered a new way of reading ebooks downloaded off of itunes on a PC.

First check that you have Google Chrome.

Next go to the web store.

Type in the Search bar "magicscroll ebook reader" without Quotes.

    Install the extention.

Then open the app and follow the prompts.

It is as easy as that and this app unlike my previous answer is of higher quality and displays the book in book form along with other advntages like automatic scrolling and even a table of contents.

Once Again Good Luck and Happy Reading!

Most people ask this question because they want to read best-sellers and other paid-for books from the iBookstore.  Your addon will NOT let them do that, it will only work for free books (or those from the very few publishers which do not use DRM).

It is important not to mislead people about this, because your advice could make them spend money on iBooks when to read them on their PC they must in fact buy them elsewhere.

I am not misleading people as I have bought plenty of books off of the itunes store such as mathew riely's new 'Scarecrow' and 'Infinity Blade: Awakening' By Brandon Sanderson and they all work with the chrome app that I have spoken of.

I appreciate your critisism, But, as I have clearly stated earlier this app WORKS, Even for the so called "purchased books" as with my own personal experience I am a collector of ebooks and searched for a while to find this as the ebooks that I had purchased wouldn't work on my previous app but they certainly work for this one.

Conner48 - hate to disappoint you and to restate what Tom has said, but this app DOES NOT work.

I have this app, I've just tried it AGAIN and I can still NOT read my textbooks that I paid $30-$40 for each.

Yes, this app will let me read two (and only two) FREE books I got from iBooks, but no other free books, and certainly no paid books.

That just means that your books do not have DRM.  Magicscroll cannot open DRM'd books from the iBookstore, and that is what most people want to read.  Download something by Nicolas Sparks and you will understand.

As far as things stand now, iBooks can only be purchased on an Apple mobile device and viewed on an Apple mobile device.

They can also be purchased via iTunes from a non-mobile device.  Those in .epub format without DRM can also be read on any platform, even if non-Apple and non-mobile.

Thanks for your previous posts, Tom ...

Is there any word about iBooks compatibility on Mountain Lion?  I am visually challenged and use an iMac 27" of necessity.  I'm currently using Kobo and Kindle readers for Mac but would be happy to be able to buy books as well as music via iTunes.  Thanks for any info you can offer.

Sorry, no.  I don't think there is any connection between having an OS X version of iBooks and OS updates.  They could have produced this app two years ago if they wanted to.

    Thanks, Tom ...
I had heard that more iOS apps were going to be added in Mountain Lion, such as the pre-released Messages.

Yes, they've published some info about new features, e.g.

without any mention of ibooks.  I suspect it would probably be a separate app to download rather than an integral part of the OS.

I downloaded 50 shades of grey and i use the Add-in for firefox. I was able to open one book which was a free one offered by iTunes, but the on I bought was DRM protected, so I could not open it. Its very frustrating. I don't have any Apple product, therefore I cannot use the item I purchased! Silly!
