I just moved my me.com mail account to iCloud. On my Mac I now have two accounts in Mail which except for the description seem to be identical. I deactivated one of the accounts. Can I safely delete the deactivated account? If I delete the deactivate account and it's mailbox on my Mac will the messages remain on the active account?  I did the move from my new iPad and this also has two seemingly duplicate accounts with identical mailboxes. This might have been caused by inadvertently going through the move processs twice as I was unfamiliar with iOS and the iPad. Is the fact that my Mac ID, which is my original mac.com email address, is also an alias for my me.com address causing this? Both the desired and duplicate accounts on my MacBook have my current me.com and the old mac.com address in their settings. Looking at the iPad's mail settings, I see no way to delete or deactivate one of the accounts. The two accounts on the iPad have different icons in Mail; one has an iCloud cloud in sky icon while the other has a brushed metal iCloud icon. Could one be for the iPad and the other for the MacBook? Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to play with it and possibly delete ny email history.

Thanks for insights.

They are both addresses for the same account, use either.

You do not have 2 accounts, you have one account with 2 email addresses, I have the same as you (you migrated a .mac address I assume) and I just use .mac while I ignore .me.

You can remove the version you don't want

Frankly I would delete all accounts and put the one you want back, on both devices.

I kind of have a similar problem, except that I inadvertently created 3 accounts (e.g., 3 separate Apple IDs) when I moved from MobileMe to iCloud (don't ask me why...I was confused ). So as it stands, I have, 1). an Apple ID under an Earthlink account (which is actually my iTunes, Apple TV, and App Store account), 2). the one I used prior to the MobileMe switch, and now, 3). a new one using a dot in-between my name, "______ . ______ @me.com. suffix. The reason for creating a 3rd one was having deleted the account on my iPhone after having server connectivity problems (as advised by someone on these boards).

    But wait...it gets "better" ...

So taking stupidity even further, I changed the passcode to the 3rd one (in conforming to Apple's Draconian and unyielding protocols) and the problem now is that one of my devices (my iPad) told me my password is wrong when I turned it on as it's wanting the new password...which I don't remember!!!  So now I don't know whether to delete the last two to avoid screwing up my iTunes, etc., accounts, or try to integrate them. Or at worst, simply have two iCloud accounts (and highly unnecessary -- I only use it as an "emails-forwarded-from-work" account).

Yeah, I know. Even I had a hard time following. So will I royally screw things up by deleting the latter two?
