Q: Ipod repair?

Well this is crap, So what I'm being told here is that I'm just out of luck and should go and buy something new because my product is too old for apple to care? Good for apples sales I guess but not so good in reinforcing consumer loyalty. Does no one repair older, 5 to7 years is obsolete now I guess, ipods at all? I can understand not supporting software after five years or so because of changes in processes and features but there is no actual object that would have to be replaced and new software will run on the same computer you had before you don't have to replace the computer just to run new software, but to not support a piece of hardware after so brief a period, and mind you not an inexpensive piece of hardware, some 400 dollars, is ridiculous. I do not speak out of turn here either I happen to work in the office products industry and if we told our customers that we would no longer service their equipment after seven years they simply would not purchase anything from us and I believe rightfully so, I still service equipment that is 15 years old and am expected by our customers to do so. If I had known that apple would not support their products for longer I probably would not have spent so much on this ipod and would have purchased something cheaper knowing that it was something to be discarded and replaced in a few years. 400 dollars may not seem like much to some people but it is to me and I would have expected a much longer period of support. Now I am stuck with a barely useable ipod and no way of getting it repaired. Well I guess it will make a decent paperweight and testament to the fleeting life of todays products.

Yes, Apple doesn't keep support alive for their products that long, but there are still several third party service centers out there who can assist you with repairing your iPod.  Just Google for "iPod repair" and you should get a plethora of results to work with.

Thanks and yes I did try that but the problem with my pod is with the center select button and it seems the only way of fixing it from a third party vendor is to replace the entire "mother board" which seems a little extreme since it is only a small push switch or maybe a mylar sheet that needs to be replaced, oh well live and learn.

It does seem like overkill, but that's the way things are unforutunately. Sorry I couldn't have brought better news.
