Q: TDM iMac > In7 PC

I'm trying to access a 2011 iMac in TDM mode, using a 400/800 Fireware cable fastened to a Win7 PC. No joy! The iMac goes into TDM sweet as anything - but rather than mounting the drive, the PC sees the Mac disk as a Removable Drive with no media inserted.

MediaFour (MacDrive) won't help, as the PC can't see the disk - although BOTH my Win7 machines (fully patched) show the same symptoms.

Can anyone suggest a way forward? Could it be a cable prob??

Target Disk Mode is intended to be used between two Macs.

Apple Tech Supp seemed confident that it would also work between an iMac and a PC, so long as I used MacDrive on the PC end to decode the disk format ...

The tech was wrong, the TDM is intended to connect 2 macs together. If both machines are on the same network you can access files and other data that way. Apple explains that in:
