Depending on your screen layout, new apps get applied to the first empty spot on the first available page. That may be the second or third page. You can try to find it by going to the search page, swipe left to right to get to the first page (screen), type in the name of the app and see what comes up.

This is in reply to all three of you.
First, as I said, this is a BRAND NEW iPac with four open spaces on page 1 and no page 2 as yet.
Second, I did the left/right swipe and it brought up the search as suggested. I entered the first character and the app showed up and I was able to activate it. However, when I closed out of the app back to home page the icon is still not showing on the screen. Since it begins with a "T" then it sould be alphabeticalized as the last icon leaving three empty spaces.

This is really an odd situation for a brand new iPad with empty spaces on the first screen. It is possible for the app to get downloaded to another screen - even with empty spaces on a screen, but if you said that you looked for it on the screen to the right, then its not there.
The little, tiny white dots in the center of the screen - down near the dock - show how many screens you are using on the iPad. The little magnifying glass to the left of the dots indicates that the search screen is to the left.
Try this, quit the app completely and any other apps in the recents tray at the bottom, then restart the iPad and see if the app appears.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
See if the app shows up.

I had turned off the iPad while I had dinner and when it powered back on still no icon. Then followed your second part and still no icon and the icon is no longer on Recent. I just checked via search again and the app shows twice. I opened the top one just to the opening page then closed it so it would show in recent again and did the wiggle bit followed by shutdown. still no icon on power up.

Have you synced the iPad with iTunes yet or are going "PC free"? If you sync with iTunes, the app should be transferred into your iTunes library on the computer.
When the iPad is connected to the computer, and while iTunes is running, select the iPad on the left under devices, them click on the Apps Tab in the iTunes window on the right. All of your app will show up in a box under the sync apps heading. If your app is in that list, you can double click on the icon in that list - and it should appear in the iPad screen that you see on the right side of the apps list. That should show you where the app icon is on the iPad.

Did the whole sync bit with the iPad initially showing on my computer with iPhoto (test photoes to learn use). After opening iTunes, the iPad came up and since I had not registered it yet went ahead and did so. Had to click off iPad then reselect for the apps window to come up then get error message
"The purchased item "Team"Viewer" on the iPad "my name" could not be transferred to your iTunes library because you are not authorized for it on this computer.
To authorize this computer for items purchased from iTunes Store, choose Store > Authorize This Computer."
I normally do not use iTunes for music so have no idea where "Store > Authorize This Computer" is located as there is nothing on the iTunes window or in the Safari menus. And yes I do know that Store is a menu pick with the following on dropdown window.

The iPad is connected to my computer to do the above bit, including registering the iPad. The only thing that shows, on the iTunes screen are

iTunes has been up and running all this time and the above is DIRECTLY OFF THE ITUNES WINDOW. The word STORE does not appear anywhere in the window.
That being said, it is highly probable that I have unchecked something somewhere that puts that in the window so my grandson (4Y) could not "accidentally" access the store and cause who knows what, he has been playing PBSKids for almost two years.

Found it, it is in "Parental Controls" so I now have Store in both top (iTunes line) and following Library on the window. I Now have TeamViewer showing under App window with TeamViewer showing on the second page.
Tks to all for an enlightening trip through both iPad and iMac processes.
