What do you mean by "auto shutdown"? Does Aperture crash?

You may have imported an corrupted image with your last import. If that is the case, then removing your recently imported images solve the problem. Try, if you can rstart Aperture, when you defer the generation of previews:

    1. Hold down the Shift-key, while you double click the Aperture icon, to launch Aperture.
    2. If you can get Aperture to launch this way, open the Aperture Preferences - Previews tab, and turn off sharing of previews.
    3. Look at your last imported images and check, which images already have previews, and for which of these images Aperture crashes, when you try to create a preview. If you can isolate the culprit, delete it from the library. For images, that already have previews, you will see "update Preview" in the "Photos" menu, for images without previews "Generate Preview". You need to find the first image with "Generate Preview" - check if Aperture crashes, when you try to generate the preview.

If  this is not the problem, please post back.

    As to your direct questions:

You only need to reinstall Aperture, if it is not a problem of your Aperture Library or some settings in your account - to check this, create a new, empty Aperture library, and import some images. If Aperture can work with a new library, then you need to fix your old library, as described above.

Sometimes you may have corrupted your user preferences or presets. In this case Aperture will work, when launched from a different user account, but not from your own account. Then it will be necessary to remove the user preferences or presets from the library.

Only if Aperture does not work from any user account or library, you will have to reinstall Aperture or MacOS. To decide which of these to reinstall, it would be necessary to see a crash log.

Neither reinstalling Aperture nor the OS will endanger your images. The Aperture Library itself will not be affected by this.
