I believe 3,1 is the wifi model and 3,2 is the wifi+4g model.

Hi. I would like to help. I think you're having a miscommunication with apple in greece. They think you're talking about sleep mode. Are the two related in your setup? does the internet go out when you wake up from sleep?

Is it just your router or others?

Does linksys sell products in your region?

Thank you Macmusician, New to IPad, your post helped, bought the IPad for its "ease" of use, had the slowest connection than anything in my house, (have a Cisco 450 mbs router), changed the search for networks setting and now it almost connects at an acceptable speed.

The speed of your internet connection is the relevant factor, not the computer-computer spreed of your router.

The internet doesn't go at 450mbps. the maximum speed is 100mbps. most consumer links get 4-10mbps which is perfectly acceptable for most tasks.

The fastest download speed I have been able to get on my Ipad 3rd generation with wifi is 20 mbs, and this was downstairs from where my router is located. I have been very pleased with the wifi performance. My Ipad and Macbook Air have almost the same download performance.

Was just posting the type of wifi router I use.... Understand we will not connect at that speed...

I purchased the 3rd gen iPad for the "ease“ of use, it took all night to not even download a couple of alleged free Tv episodes (for the price they should all be free).   As soon as I connected and synced with my Windows7 laptop with itunes, all the downloads were done in 15 minutes on the PC.....will never buy an Apple product again..

    THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION

Some of you may know that I have posted here many times about my wifi problems on the iPad3, and my extreme frustration with Apple for neither publically acknowledging the problem or yet issuing a fix.

The fact is, except for my wifi aggravation with the iPad3, I love it. Really am crazy about it.

I tried ALL of the fixes posted here and elsewhere, and not one of them helped for more than a few minutes.

The problem is that the iPad3 cannot connect well or quickly unless it gets a strong signal. Within 30 feets of my router, it was fine. At 40-50 feet, I got serious deterioration and disconnects.

SO, this week, I just gave up on waiting for Apple.

For $50, I bought a highly rated wifi range extender. The results are AMAZING. Now at 50+ feet, I am getting full signal strength. I can't stop smiling about the improvement.

Someday, I hope that Apple fixes this problem. But if you are tired of waiting for that day, go buy a range extender, and your problems will be over, and you will finally be able to fully enjoy the device you bought.

What range extender are you using and what router are you using the extender with?

2Wire router from AT&T Uverse at 18 megs.

Diamond Multimedia Wireless Range Extender (WR300N): http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Multimedia-Wireless-Extender-WR300N/dp/B005D5M136/ ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I just gave the extender a 5 star review.

The range extender has also ended my death grip issue. I can now hold my beloved iPad any way I want and it doesn't affect reception at all.

I'm still pretty ecstatic about this.

It was sure worth the money.

Apple now is investigating the issue. for more, read here.

oh, btw, on the topic of extenders. apple actually makes one. it's called the airport express, but it works best with an airport extreme. there's some debate whether it will work with other routers. I will check out the diamond for my installations.

    Thanks.

allow apple to fix it. read the article above.

For those of you using the diamond range extender, does it work with linksys routers reliably and maintain an IP address?

I only know about how it's working with a 2wire, but that's perfect.

Maybe someone else has experience with it and other routers. Take a look at the many reviews on Amazon. You might also check their website.

After seeing my iPad 3 hesitate when downloading,  I had to change the routers settings to G only. This worked, but wanted the performance of an N. I changed the router settings QoS to off  (the Apple extreme router does not use QoS. Umm -thought there)

    So far it's working great.

    D-link router (DIR–655)

QoS is used for prioritize wi-fi stuff like Voice IP.
