Thank you for your reply, but I had done that before I sent my question. For some reason, the AirPlay icon is not on my Ipad. I browse through all the applications in that bottom row, and it's not there. Can it be possible that it is hidden? Could it not be installed?

Thanks again. This is mindboggling! As soon as the application panel at the bottom opens up, this is what I see (in order from left to right): orientation locking icon, brightness control, rewind button, play button, forward button, volume control, and immediately, Music icon, safari icon, and the rest...what I am missing here?

I don't think you are missing anything, it sounds as though it is not there. Have you tried restarting the iPad, the Apple TV and your router. Also check that you have not turned AirPlay off on the Apple TV itself.

I have turned everything off, except the router, which I will proceed to do. But I suspect this is not the reason. Any last suggestions for when the "restarting strategy" leaves me in the same spot? Many thanks for your time...
