Can anybody how can I resize a photo in Aperture to a smaller size
Why do you want to resize?
- If you want to resize to save disk space, that is not supported by Aperture - Aperture implements a lossless workflow ans always wans to keep the master image file at the best resolution and quality. To actually reduce the file size of a master imge file, you need to export a version at a reduzed size and to reimport it.
- If you want to use a smaller version of your image outside Aperture, use one of the File > Export options, as dbmoore pointed out, or a suitable File > Share option.
With the File > Export menu you have many predefined Export presets to choose from; and you can add your own with the "edit" option.

Forgive me for splicing in here. Being new to Aperture also, I'm wondering if there's a way to pick the File Size of the Export - similar to what Apple's Preview used to offer, prior to Lion removing this handy feature?
If there isn't, it seems like there ought to be.

Yes when you export picture(s) you have the option of selecting different sizes and types. For JPG you can also select Quality. You can also create your own. See Chapter 20 in your Aperture User Manual.

You can pick the pixel size (the width and height in pixels) and choose quality settings, but you cannot limit the file size to, let's say smaller than 1 MB.
Send a feature request to Apple - use the feedback form in the Aperture Application menu:
Aperture > Provide Aperture Feedback

Thanks to all for the input. I can't understand why Apple removed this very handy feature in Preview when they released Lion. I used it all the time.
Does anyone know if there's a way to do this with an Automator Sequence from within Aperture 3?

I just was looking for the same thing and found "Edit - resize" as a plug-in in the Aperture --> downloads section of apple's website. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/aperture/editresize.html
Haven't tried it, but says it is updated to work with 3.1. I'm downloading it as I write this.
