Q: Appstore doesn't say downloading but Launchpad does?

Alright so the deal is that I am downloading a rather large App. Something strange occurred and now the download progress bar is not showing on the app store under purchases. Furthermore the page for the app indicates installing and the app appears as downloading in launch pad. Also the icon on the purchase page that would normally say "Pause" during the download just says installed and can be clicked repeatedly. After being clicked once it acts as if it is about to show the download on the purchases page but then just returns to its previous state saying install. Thus since this is a large file it is difficult to tell if this is merely aesthetic or if the App is simply not downloading. I could wait until morning and see if the progress bar on the launchpad side has come any closer to completion but that would only cause more annoyance if no progress has been made. How can I fix this issue as I can't seem to find it happening to anyone else? I have updated my computer and all software, restarted the computer, and deleted and restarted the download once already.

I am using OS 10.7.4 on a MacBook Pro

Same here. Trying to download a 1GB game and while in Launchpad it claims to be 'downloading', it is not making any progress. In Mac App Store there is no download progress bar, and instead it says 'Install'. Clicking 'Install' causes the button to turn grey for a second or two but nothing happens.

I've tried refreshing the Mac App Store purchases page, and even manually cleaning the cache, but no success.

I thought I'd try removing the game (Bastion) to force reset the download, but the file does not appear to exist anywhere on my computer.

If I'd known it was going to be such a bother then I'd just had downloaded it from Steam.

I also am using OS 10.7.4 on a MacBook Pro.

I was having this problem too, and it was driving me crazy. For me, the solution was to restart my machine, open the launchpad, and click to resume the download. It asked me for my username and password, and then began to actually download.

This was happening to me until just now. I fixed it by logging out of the store and deleting the icon from the Launchpad (holding down on the icon until it wobbles) and then restarting. Logging back into the store and clicking Install then worked and the progress bar came up. Hope it works for you too.

Hmm, shortly afterwards I clicked out of the Purchases tab and the progress bar has again disappeared. That said my free space is regularly ticking down which suggests the download is still continuing and it's a large file so I don't want to delete it and start all over again if it is.

Have Apple removed the progress bar from the App Store?

    Me too:

I downloaded a couple of Gb of Updates yesterday and App Store now says there are no new updates, but this progress bar is lurking around. Any idea what it is or how I get rid of it?

Or do I just do what I often do and ignore it. Then one day it will be gone and I will be none the wiser...

I just discovered that the progress bar in my previous post related to syncing photos with iPhoto. So if you get something like this on your Mac have a look at the apps in Lauchpad and see if one has a progress bar (it may be inside another folder).

    SOLUTION!!

An empty progress bar has been visible on my launch pad app LITERALLY for over 2.5 years and bugging me enough to google it several times with no success -- Just now I was clicking around in the App Store and I just found how to fix it!

So in the App Store I went to the Purchases tab. There was a paused download (iMovie from Feb 2012) sitting in the list and I clicked Resume. Once it completed downloading and installing -- VOILA! No more progress bar on my Launch Pad icon!! YAY!

Note that I also have a Mavericks OS X download available in my list and I haven't selected that because I've only just updated to the latest version. A little confused why it is there showing as available and what might happen if I select it.... I'll be brave another day.... for now I just want to enjoy the Launch Pad icon as it was intended!

I am using Yosemite.  The Launch pad does in fact show a status bar.  The App store does not show anything paused under purchased or updates.  I opened the launch pad and it shows several paused downloads.  I went back to App store and downloaded those items and the bar went away.  The items were not shown as paused nor anything else else oddly indicated in App store.

Hope this helps along with the info from earklectic.

Hey all, I found the best solution!  Cancel the download.  How?  Read on, it's a hidden feature.

I had the same problem, in that the launchpad icon showed an empty progress bar.  Using information from this thread, I went to the App Store purchases tab and found out that both XCode and OS X Yosemite were paused as downloads (even through Yosemite was already installed).  Shoot, I just wanted to cancel them, but saw no way to do that and didn't want to reinstall the OS!

But I came across a tip that actually gives you the ability to cancel an in-progress download!  It's simple.  Press the option key.  The buttons by the paused applications change their labels to Cancel!  Exactly what I needed, and what most of the people on this thread really need!

The ability to cancel is there, but totally hidden!  The download paused button should be a button with the option to cancel.  At least the functionality is there to cancel a download, but the developer should be spanked for not making it readily apparent to the poor user who is stuck with the download progress bar.

    Have a great day!

The other way to get rid of the paused download, click and hold the app's icon in Launchpad. When the icons start jiggling an X appears and clicking the X removes & cancels the download.

BTW, it's not hidden, most folks experienced with OS X, know that the Option key usually modifies the options available in OS X since OS X Public Beta Kodiak in SEP 2000. Click & hold the menus in an app and press Option to see what may change. Or click & hold an app's icon in the Dock and press Option to see what's available.

Note, too, that if you don't have anything showing that it's downloading in the App Store, look carefully at your Launchpad apps.  When an app's download is waiting to start, it's hard to see the download bar across the app's icon.  I went thru my Launchpad apps three times, I think, before I spotted the grey on black.  It's not below the app icon (like it is in the dock), it's across the icon itself about 2/3rds down.  It's easy to see once the download starts because you have blue or white (can't remember right now) across the portion of the bar that represents the downloaded portion.

PS  First time I tried to post this, it said, "User 'Grayn280' is banned from posting content".  Apparently, that means I have to login again before I can post....  Weirdest error message!
