Q: I have Lion OS and am getting bumped off my wifi after a few minutes: I have to reboot the computer to reconnect!  Any help would be appreciated!

I have had the iMac for a year and upgraded to Lion months ago. Lately I've been getting bumped off my wifi at home after a few minutes, though all the other PC's and iPhones have no problem. Has anyone experienced this? Any easy solutions?

Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    Seen it a million times.

Hold down the alt key and click on the WiFi icon. Tell me what channel it is using..

I've now connected an ethernet cable just to maintain connectivity. The wifi shows connection to my home network.

Ok, well when you connect to wifi again, there should be a channel # it will tell you that it's using.

Yes, I'm on wifi now, it says I'm on channel 149 (5GHz). Thanks for your interest.

Interesting, as the band you're using shouldn't have too much interference, but it happens.

Is this a third party router? If so, can you still change the channel it broadcasts?

Next time you get bumped off, i want you to power-cycle the router, then when you enable connection again, let me know if it's still using ch 149.

How far away is the iMac from the router BTW? I guess not too far if it's over ethernet.

Well, since I disconnected the ethernet to answer your question the problem has stopped occurring! I had already followed the instructions on Apple Support and deleted all the keychain numbers, to no effect. I'd re-started the router and modem, also useless. But now it's working due to no obvious action on my part. I won't look a gift "fix" in the mouth. So far so good. Thanks for your interest.
