Did you change the email address associated with your Apple ID, or create a new one with the new address? Note that, in the latter case, all your apps are tied to the old Apple ID and will not be useable while logged in with your Apple ID.
If the former, try logging out in Settings > Store, then log in with the corrected Apple ID.

I changed the email address. I've logged into the store with the updated apple ID. Unfortunately no joy. When I click on update App, the AppleID seems to be hardwired to the old ID.

On a related matter, just bought a shared Ipad2 and getting ready to register. My husband and I already have separate Itunes accounts for Ipods.
Should we create a new Itunes account with a new password or choose one of the existing accounts and stick with that?

I use the same iTunes account with all my devices - so pick and use one of the existing accounts.

This is so unhelpful and frustrating. It seems many of us have the SAME problem. I did NOT change nor create a new account. I smiply followed directions to change my Apple ID when my email address changed. Now I can no longer update aps or download new aps on my ipod. I have to plug into my computer to do anything which, obviously, does not work if I"m not at home! Yikes! somebody please help.

Have you tried tapping on your id in Settings > Store on the iPod and logging out of the account and then logging back in and seeing if it then works ?

On your iDevice, make sure you first log out then log back in with the updated AppleID.
Settings > Store, tap the account name then Sign out and Sign in.
The AppleID used to purchase the item is embedded into the item at time of purchase.
If you have simply updated your AppleID, just use the current password when the old AppleID shows up. You don't need to (and cannot) change the AppleID to the new AppleID.
