When I go to java's site and download java, it refers me to Apple's software update. Therefore I would assume apple is still in control of updates to Java. Yes, its Javas problem and they need to send out a fix, but apple will have to push the update out.
Apple supplies their own version of Java. Use the Software Update feature (available on the Apple menu) to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java for your Mac.
