Q: screen is scrambled; what can i do?

Just turned on my 17" Macbook Pro 2006 and the screen is scrambled showing the normal opening screen covered by a series of small squares in a diagonal pattern

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

    Sounds like that may be a hardware issue.  I would contact Apple for diagnosis.  The easiest thing to do, if you have an Apple Store near you, will be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar and then let them look at it.  Of course, I'm not sure if they will still do repairs on a 2006 machine, and even if they did, it wouldn't be worth the cost at this point.  Still, since I can't see it and the Apple tech will be able to, perhaps you'll get a more encouraging diagnosis.  Good luck!
