You can't merge accounts. If you want to transfer data between one and the other you'll have to do it manually.

This may sound dumb, but how do I do that?

What is the original account used for? Was it ever an account with actual email on it? - or was it just for iTunes, and you have the iCloud account for email, calendars, and so on - in that event you don't need to move anything (I was assuming, probably wrongly, that you had synced data on both accounts - if you in fact do, please confirm this).
You can't merge accounts or transfer iTunes purchases from one Apple ID to another: but there is no problem about using two IDs.
Use your iCloud email address (which is also an Apple ID) for iCloud for syncing email, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and PhotoStream.
Use your other Apple ID as before for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match.
There's no conflict about doing this, and you won't even notice as Keychain will log you in with the correct ID in each case. It's also better security not to have your iTunes login also your email address, given the number of complaints about hacked iTunes accounts.

Here's the thing, my gmail account has been compromised. I had that gmail account as my 1st iTunes account ID since before the 1st iPhone. Then I got a MobileMe account and now iCloud and all I want to do is get rid off my gmail account totally and only use my iCloud ID. I used the gmail for every thing; calendars, iTunes, APPS, email... Everything!
How do I move things from that account to my iCloud and then get rid of my old account?
Sent from my iPhone

If the gmail ID wasn't a MobileMe account how could you have been syncing calendars with it? if you were syncing using iTunes and a USB cable or wifi no account was involved.
You can't move purchased apps or DRM'd songs from one iTunes account to another, but if you are able to cancel the Gmail account you can still use it as the login (which is only a text string in the form of an email address, it doesn't have to be a functioning one) as long as you associate another working email address with it (not your MobileMe one - you could get a free one, e.g. from Yahoo).
If you have emails on the Gmail account and it was IMAP you can download them to your Mac. If it was a POP account you already have. All that is unaffected by iCloud.

Thanks for the comments. Some of which have cleared alot of my questions. However, I purchsed iTunes Match with my gmail iTunes account and for some reason my iPhone and iPad will not conect to the account through my iCloud id which is linked to my @me.com account. Did I necessarily have to buy my iTunes Match account with my iCloud account in order for it to sync with all my devices? According to oyu above comment it seems that both my gmail and @me accounts should link through Keychain correct?
Thanks for any help!
