i am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question.

 

so here it is,

 

i just got a white new ipad as a gift from my uncle. i havn't open it.

can i just walk in to apple retail store and replace with a black one? (and there is no way to find that receipt)

    As long as it's not opened you can try. worst they'll do is say no.

     

    Return policies like that is often up to the discretion of each store manager.

    Without a receipt, you won't be able to exchange it at an Apple Store.  They simply won't do it.  Since we know Apple does not take cash for products at any of their stores, if he purchased it from Apple directly, he had to use a credit card.  No matter what, you can't just walk into an Apple store and exchange a device without proof of purchase.  Sorry.

    I have a friend who works for Apple.  He told me it's an in stone policy.  No receipt.  No exchange. 

     

    Not that the OP did this, but suppose someone stole a brand new iPad in a box never opened and took it to an Apple Store to exchange it for a different unit.  Apple, would in a way be helping a thief rid themselves of the stolen device and have a new device in exhange.

    We could do a swap. I have a new black iPad and now I really want a white one instead!
