Hi, your best bet is a USB Serial adapter on a later Mac & a Terminal App.

Another tack may be to find someone with some old Mac hardware to do a transfer for you. For example, I keep a PowerMac OS8.6 around with SCSI, floppy, USB and a CD burner for such jobs. An external SCSI drive can serve as an intermediary media, so you don't need 40 floppies. If the LC doesn't boot, the hard drive can be installed in the SCSI case.
Of course, such old transferred files may be difficult to open on a modern machine. I've had to do many hoops for common old Word files, PageMaker, etc.
