Q: best bluray drive for mac pro?

Some of my customers have been demanding BD disks and I need to either jump ship to Windows or find a bluray recorder that will work with Toast, BECAUSE DVD STUPIDOLD PRO DOES NOT SUPPORT BLURAY.

Should I buy an external firewire or USB burner or stick an internal burner in? Will Toast work with 2 hour .mov's?

What brands/model #'s do you suggest? Vendors?

Thanks!

Video Artist - you've asked this question twice, I've answered you in your other thread.

    Hi,

    I have a HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH14NS40 from LG, but I can't use it in my Boot Camp Windows7 64bit install,

I can see the drive, but not able to eject the tray unless to push the drive button,

Does your 12X works well under Boot Camp ?

I'm no the same Mac Pro 3.1 (Early 2008)?

    Hey,

I know this post isn't recent, but I just bought a BW-12D1S-U, and I can't get it to run with my 2011 MacBook Pro operating with Snow Leopard. I need to burn around 10 Blu-rays. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

In order to read and play blu-ray disc, choosing a great blu-ray drive is the first and import thing, i just compare many and at last, i choose  Samsung SE-506BB  External Slim Blu-ray Drive, which is very compact and lightweight. and The drive is very quiet -- can't even hear it with blu-ray video playing. The size and weight is such that I can easily put this into a laptop bag and take it on the road with me. Trial software packages to play blu-rays and do other media related things were included with the drive but I did not use them. Instead I installed a tool named UFUSoft Mac Blu-ray Player, as suggested by my friend, and I'm watching the blu-ray discs from Netflix without a problem. I'm happy with this drive, though at ~$97 it's pricier than what I initially thought I wanted.

I finally decided to go with the Aluminum External USB Blu-Ray Writer Super Drive for Apple.  I hooked it up to my new MBP and it worked perfectly.  Since Apple doesn't "officially" support Blu-Ray, I had to buy a Blu-Ray player app for $40, but it works great. No issues so far....very happy with the purchase.  I hope this helps!

The truth is Apple may never support BD playing but some third party blu-ray player can achieve this, like Mac Blu-ray Player, Windows Blu-ray Player , etc. A blu-ray driver would be necessary to watch a blu-ray movie on Mac. Mac Blu-ray Player is recommended for this. Free trial with a watermark on screen which would disappear once purchased, 33% off during Halloween Day.

I use a Blu-Ray Drive by Sea Tech. It works with Mac and is built as solid as a Mac.

you are correct, sir: there is no documented( official) support for BluRay on Mac. Apple's official position, as stated by Mr. Jobs, was that "Blu Ray was a bag of hurt", referring to all the codecs, complexity and permissions to use stuff so that Blu Ray would work. so, no, Bu Ray does not "officially" work on mac right out of the box, It can, and it will, though, with the help of 3rd party stuff. I got a BluRay drive from MCE and it works just fine. I had to to buy a player and a plugin for Toast, though, but installation was a snap. so, if you're willing to cough up a little cash for a working Blu Ray player and the Toast plugin, etc, then yes, you too can have Blu Ray on your mac.

    just my opinion
