Hi there, I have a 1TB Time Capsule running 7.6.1.

I had previously set Shared disk access to With Accounts and setup 2 accounts.

This worked great as i always had to authenticate to gain access ot the files.

Since the latest update guest also has access!

Is there any way to disable guest having access to my disks that i have set to with accounts?

If this is not possible then the Tome Capsule is inherantly insecure!

Worse than that it's pretending to be secure by setting secure disk access but still allowing access to all the files by guest! not good

Hey apple W/T/F, seriously this is probably some esy fix but we need you to answer.  We use this for very sensitive data and like me many of us are pending the reply.  I should mentinon that we are a international company with 650 sites, privately owned and I am pretty much considering dropping the OS X infrastructure that I worked so har to get my company to accept.

    Please respond soon.

Hi there. I think that when you set shared disk protection with accounts, folders are created for each of the accounts and an aditional one called "Data". As a guest, you can access the Data folder without password but not the other folders. If you log in with an account, you can access your account folder and the Data one.

Still, I agree this is a serious problem. For months I had my Time Capsule disc protected wtih device password, thinking everything was safe, until a friend of mine told me he could access my Time Machine files without entering any password from outside my LAN. My entire system was exposed during that time. I still don't know how to block guest access using protection with device or disc password.

Apple should fix this, there should be millions of users with their files exposed on the internet without their knowledge.

Yep that's true, but when i first got the time capsule (many firmwares ago) when you clicked to access it a username and password box always popped up (unless you were already logged into it) which was perfect, why did apple reduce the security (to almost none!)

If you password protect your mac to protect your files then backup with time machine to your unprotected time capsule wheres the security?

Seriously apple what are you doing!

Dave2318 I have the same problem, I would like to know if you've found any solution? The only way to prevent access by removing the sharing tab but before it was not the case, and should log the person to view the files. Thank you for your time.

Hi Barclay1977, nope no solution. Only way would be for Apple to put the feature back in or someone to hack the firmware to add the feathure i suppose.

    Thanks

Is it possible to downgrade to 5.6?

AirPort Utility 5.6 could hardly be called a downgrade, since it was introduced on the same day as 6.x, and it  provides a number of features that were dropped in AirPort Utility 6.x

Download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

You can use both AirPort Utility 5.6 and/or 6.x on your Mac and choose the one that you need.

Mountain Lion has not even been released yet, so we cannot comment on that.

I am a developer and I am referring to the beta version.

The Terms of Use Agreement for this area do not allow us to discuss any beta products on this support forum. There is a special Mountain Lion support area for questions about that operating system. You received the information and details about this when you agreed to test the product.

    Hackintosh,

This will disable access for all users and not for the guests only. This is a very important security fault and I find it by mistake. All this time anyone clould access my TC files and i wasn't aware..!!

    Hi,

I bought the new 3TB Time Capsule and there is the same security issue!! Some advised to install an old version of Airport Utility but it won't install on Mac OS 10.8.4. Installer says that it is unsupported.

Apple, fix this!!! Somebody has just filled my Capsule with junk data via internet without password! I need to use multiple user accounts protected by password and disable the password-free guest access.

I wanted to buy second Capsule, but instead of it I will return this insecure product and will buy Synology.

    Shame on you, Apple!!!
