Q: Apps Greyed out for iphone in itunes

I've read everything I can find on greyed out apps and can't find a solution. I've re-installed itunes 3 times, I have restrictions turned off on my iphone, I've transfered purchased apps from my iphone to iTunes synced my iphone many times. Still with iphone plugged into itunes and apps checked I can't access any of my apps. The top half of the app screen is greyed out. I can access my files sharing apps on bottom half of screen. Help please.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1

Thanks to all who replied. I finally fixed it by symply syncing with each of my iphones plugged into the pc and the itunes program open. I don't know how things got out of sync but I suspect a new version of itunes. It seems that whenever I download a new version, somthing gets messed up.

    Thanks again, problem fixed.

I was having a frustrating time with this as well.  The phone said 13 apps needed updated.  I tried to update and it would eventually say the update failed, would I like to retry / done.  Retrying the app update never worked.  I synched with itunes and it did not solve the issue.  I updated the apps in itunes and re-synched but this still did not solve the issue.  I tried the app restriction enable/disable and still had the issue.  I rebooted the iphone, and re-synched and it did work.  I am uncertain when I should have rebooted (power shutdown), as I had done this so many times I likely rebooted during the process during all of those steps.  I suspect the culprit was a new version of itunes or the OS software upgrade (major update) followed by a minor OS software update.

Thank you for the help!  I recommend going through the post replies and following the suggestions as they were listed.  I can also say thanks to apple for setting up this website on discussions, but not for the pickiness of itunes.  :-)

Matman_mo - what sort of computer are you running? A Windows XP, Vista, 7 or a Apple computer?

If you are running Windows do you have security software on your computer (i.e. Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee, AVG or Windows Firewall)? If so, you may need to go in and disable the security software and try it out again.

I've found that many cases can be easily resolved by disabling that type of software.

You may want to review this article for other suggestions: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

Secondly, are you getting any error numbers or messages when trying to update these apps? If so, check out these three articles: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1424 and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368 and also http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297

I have had the same problem as the person who first launched this message. Here is what I discovered:

In the Settings/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync section I have 2 listings for my PC. The first one is the currently installed PC It only has Books and Photos listed

The other occurrence of my PC that is listed is the version that I previously synced with iTunes prior to re-installing Windows earlier this month. This PC version does not exist anymore!!!!

The message that I get when I tap the arrow is that Sync will continue when that version becomes available again (which is never going to happen).

The Apps and Music are listed for this version of my PC.

Tapping "Sync now" does nothing. I am trapped in a time warp unless I can uninstall that prior version of my PC and by the way, the names for both versions are identical which means if I can figure out how to get rid of the version that no longer exists, it will delete my current version as well.

OK, so how do I get rid of the earlier version from iTunes?

    Thanks for ANY help

    Bob

IOS 6 WIFI FIX FOR NOW!!!!!

The only quick fix for now is to reset your Network

    Setting/General/Reset/Reset Nettwork Settings

Make sure you copy your password somewhere. I did so on  Notes so that i could copy and paste.

This will work for a while but the problem keeps coming back in a day or so but at least its a quick fix.

I have the problem on both my Iphone and Ipad 3 with IOS 6

The only other permanent fix is to go back to IOS 5 which I had back when I tried IOS 6 bata and had the same problem which I thought Applw would have Fixed.

Apple better get there act together or Android is going to Kick there *** SOON!

I had this problem and it was caused by having parental restrictions on to stop installation of apps. I had to turn it off and unplug and replug my iphone and then it would install the apps (doesn't work if you change it and leave it plugged and then try to resync, you have to unplug and replug).
