Please carefully read Lion Setup Assistant tips for step by step instructions. Just ensure you have a Firewire 800 or USB cable ready when you turn on the new MBP for the first time so you can do the migration correctly. You can migrate from either your TM backup or directly from the old Mac. If your TM drive is a USB drive the migration will be slower, if you use the old Mac and it has FW800 the migration will go quicker. It's very straightforward if you follow Pondini's instructions.

Since my new machine is a MBPRD which I understand comes with a set of additional features for the retina display will I be losing anything using this migration process? Or does the setup assistant retain the basic new features of OS X for the retina display?
Thank you for your help!

No you will not lose a thing on the new (or old) system, all you are doing is migrating what you want. You can migrate data files, settings and applications if you want. When you migrate the migration does not overwrite the OS or any of the abilities of the new machine.
When you turn on the new machine for the first time simply follow the on-screen directions.
