Screen Shot 2012-06-15 at 3.21.54 PM.png

I've had these supposid servers on my network for like months now, I'm concerned people on my network can go through my computer. I turned off everything on the server app, and even deleted Mac Lion Server, and this is STILL HERE. How do I remove this from my network!

Please HELP!

    If it's your computer that had Lion Server installed and all you've done is delete the server.app, then you've not actually deleted the server.

    It sounds like you used to have some sort of a file server, decided that you didn't want it and tried to delete it by trashing server.app.

    Basically, those two "servers" are there because your computer is broadcasting the fact that it has shares available.  You're seeing that broadcast in the Servers view in the finder.

    If you connect to a public network like at starbucks or walmart or wherever then yes... Others will see that if they know where to look on their network.

    If you've turned off all the services that share files on your computer, then you have nothing to worry about.  Even though you can see them in the Servers view.

    If you truly want to delete lion server from your computer, then you'll need to back up all your files on something external and reinstall os x from scratch.

    Just before I deleted the app, I turned off literaly every swith in each catagory. I've had filesharing off with program up to. Do I realy have to restore my entire mac with a time machine backup, and Lion restoration just to disable it? What if I reinstalled it, and configured it there differently before deleting it again? Is there any other way?! D;

    Hi

    Apart from what's already been suggested:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3190174?start=15&tstart=0

    I would pay attention to Gerrit de Witt's post. There are other threads in this forum that discuss this 'problem' which you can search for yourself.

    Apple's 'official' way is here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4827?locale=en_US

    But as threads in this forum have pointed out, it does not disable everything. I'm guessing it does work if you get the option to configure the Server at the Welcome Screen and bypass it at that point. However once you go beyond the Welcome Screen additional components are indeed downloaded which are not part of the Server app alone.

    I suppose the only 'sure' way (as Gerrit mentions) is to backup and reinstall. This may involve a reformat?

    HTH?
