Q: switching server

hello

i have earlier told you of all my problems with my xserve. i was told back that it would be a good idea to reboot the whole system, and set it up from the scratch. but i have some problems. i am only using it for websites and email for clients. while i am setting the system i have to use a temporary server for the emails and websites. it would only take a week or 2 before i can switch to the xserver again. i am thinking of using a macbook pro as a temporay server. now my problem is: i have to make the transition from the 2 servers as easy as possible. i dont want that my users are affected of it. i dont see a problem moving the websites i am hosting. i can just copy the files and the mySQL databases. but the mail is a problem. you also have to remember, my xserve is running snow leopard server, but the macbook pro i am making to a server will be running lion. how can i copy the user and all its email messages to the new temporary server with another operating system. and most important when i am re building the system on my xserve (and swiching to lion) i will change the whole setup (because i have found out that its not correct the way the settings are now). how can i get all the messages back. its ok if i have to set up the users again. but i have to give them all their email messages back

Xserve, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
