    Welcome to the Apple Community.

Unfortunately, a number of users appear to have encountered this problem. Some of these users have reported that the problem just disappears the following day or shortly after. Other users have found various other solutions to this problem.

Firstly, are you receiving any date and time errors when you turn on your Apple TV?

Check that you are properly connected to the Internet, by ensuring that you have a proper IP address and not one starting with 169. Also check that your location for the iTunes Store is set correctly, if so you might try changing it and then changing it back.

If the problem persists try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router, or if this doesn't work you might like to try a restore.

I have the same issue. I updated a few days ago and have never had any problems. I sat down to turn on my apple tv with my iPad and it would not find it. I attempted the same thing with my itouch with the same result. I then used the apple tv remote to turn it on. It said it could not connect to network. So far I have restarted apple tv, reset apple tv, reset my 2wire router, unplugged the apple tv, ALL with no luck.  Every other devise is reading the wireless, infact I'm typing this now from my iPad.

I too have this issue. 3rd Gen AppleTV 5.0.2

    Restarted AppleTV

    Reset AppleTV

    Restored AppleTV Via iTunes

Changed Location 10000000000 times. (i've tried every location)

    Unplugged power for 3 days....

    restarted Airport Extreme.

reinstalled Airport Extreme software, reconfigured entire network to rule it out..

Nothing anyone has posted in any of the appleTV discussions I have found work.

My old AppleTV 2nd Gen works fine... Along with my iPhone, iPad, iMac, MBP and even a PoS Windows PC all connect fine...

But I can stream my library to it, I just have the two icons on screen. Settings and Computers.

I've had the 3rd Gen since it came out, this has been going on for at least 2 weeks now.

Yes it will not set the time, I turn it on and it's trying... but can't connect.

When I reset/reinstalled the appletv, both times it stayed on the activating screen forever.

I know this is an old thread, but i'm now having the exact same issue with my gen2 (I have a gen3 on the same network with no issues). Running ver 6.0.2.

I know that this tread is old, but I just had the same issue after installing a switch, for some reason the apple tv couldnt see the internet via the switch but when connected back to the router it worked.  Hope this helps
