I assume there's no sleep light because there's no need to visually determine when the machine has actually finished writing memory to disk before you move it, because there are no moving parts - you can just close it and go.

interesting. I did not know it lacked a sleep indicator or battery status. I can do without a sleep indicator, but no battery status??

On my 2010 MBP, I think I've used the battery indicator (lights on the side of the machine) maybe 2 or 3 times in 2 years, so for me it's no big deal, but I can understand that if someone is often using the notebook on battery, then having the lights is an easy way of seeing the status.
