I was away for a couple of days and when I woke it up the log in page was much larger than normal, when I went past that everything was in a much larger text and bold including the menu bar, all my applications and pop up menus are reacting the same way.  I was able to reduce the size of the icons on my desktop and dock but nothing else.  I searched through everything in the system preferences and tried changing a number of things that looked like they had even a remote chance of curing my problem, restated several times in the process and nothing did the trick.  Even when I open Safari I can only see a fraction of the content that I used to be able to see.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.....

Try holding the Control key and scrolling or swiping down.

If that does not help then go to: Apple / System Preferences / Displays / select the Display tab and try setting your Screen Resolution to the highest available Resolution in the list.

Then if that does not work, reset the PRAM as per > Resetting your Mac's PRAM

    Thanks den.thed,

I'd already tried the screen resolution so I reset the PRAM and that didn't solve the problem either.  Going through some notes that I'd had from a couple of years back I tried restarting in Safe Mode and that cured my problem.  While in the Safe Mode I tried opening some recently re-intalled apps and they seem to open OK and yet I guess there's an issue with an extension somewhere as I restarted in the normal fashion and the problem persists.  If memory serves me I have to delete the recently re-installed apps one by one to see which one is causing the problem???

    Thanks again,

Did you try what he suggest first, i.e., to contol swipe your magic mouse or control move your scoll wheel to possibly adjust the zoom?

Also maybe check Zoom in the Seeing tab of Universal Access, if the mouse and/or trackpad zoom is disabled.

    Thanks X423424X and den.thed,

I did try what den.thed had suggested, I hadn’t tried control swipe control move with my magic mouse until you’d mentioned it but that didn’t work.  Everything on my desk top was magnified including the menu bar on top and your suggestion had no influence on that or on the apps or the pop up menus.  Everything on my desk top and the apps that I’ve tried return to normal when I do a Safe Boot.

I updated and used TimeMachine to restore my system after my hard drive crashed about 12 days ago and everything seemed to be working fine.  I downloaded a few apps that I’d used before my sytem crashed just before I left for the weekend and when I woke it up and logged back in it was messed up.  I did try deleting those apps and restarting but the problem persists unless I start from a Safe Boot.

den.thed, I did check the Universal Access and the trackpad zoom is disabled in the normal startup mode.

You said it is "ok" when you safe boot.  What if you log into another account?

Must be one of them I would assume.  And you didn't delete all they may have installed.  What were they?

Post the filenames you see in the following places:

    Your Account's Login Items

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents (in your home directory)

    /Library/LaunchAgents

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

    /Library/StartupItems

    Thanks X423424X,

The items that I downloaded and or restored before I had a problem were Solitaire Til Dawn, Apeiron X, Super MahJong, Caribbean Mah Jong and MacDICT X

I do appreciate you're trying to help and I'm sure you'll either say to heck with this guy or get a big laugh out of this so I'll apologize ahead of time.

    My HD

/Library/ LaunchAgents- that file has about 72 plists.

/Library/LaunchDaemons-that file has 160 about plists.

/Library/StartupItems- doesn't open  and is evidently empty as it shows 0 KB when I get the info on that folder

It'd take me forever and a day to list everything in the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders because I use the hunt and peck method on the keyboard.  I did try to make a copy of the LaunchAgents to Appleworks but that just threw about a hundred pages of code up on my screen.

    Thanks again

I seriously doubt it.  No one has 72 launch agents.  I suspect you looked at /Library, not /Library/LaunchAgents, particuallry since you posted with a space a in /Library/ LaunchAgents" after the second slash.

/Library/LaunchDaemons-that file has 160 about plists.

    Impossible also.

/Library/StartupItems- doesn't open  and is evidently empty as it shows 0 KB when I get the info on that folder

    That is possible.

To avoid any possiblity of a mistake copy/paste each of the pathnames (one by one of course) into a finder Go menu, Go To Folder.

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents

    /Library/LaunchAgents

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

    /Library/StartupItems

Also open your Accounts system preferences and click the Login Items tab to see those items.

Thank you for your patience X423424X.  Hense my handle as “I don’t have a clue” other than to do much more than to turn my Mac on or off.

Obviously, I didn’t know how to use the Go to Folder in the Go Menu until now, so that helps a great deal.

I had previously opened the Library folder and scrolled down to the folders you suggested  and did it several times so I’m a bit flustered because there were tons of plists in the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders.  HOWEVER, they are no longer there so I’m even more frustrated now.

Now there are no items in either the /Library/LaunchAgents or the /Library/LaunchDaemons folders and the only thing in the /Library/StartupItems is the NortonPersonalFirewall folder which includes NortonPersonalFirewall, a Resources Folder that includes an English.lproj folder with Localizable.strings and a StartupParameters.plist

When I opened the Login Items in my System Preferences there are no items listed.

    Thanks again for your patience,
