When I had an iPod Classic it was acting up--freezing, needing countless reboots--all the time, it was about half full. Finally I gave up trying to deal with it so I plugged it in and hit 'Restore' in iTunes. This wipes the drive clean and reinstalls the iPod software. Drastic solution, but it worked.
BTW, according to something I read, a reboot is done by holding down the play/pause button, and the top button. This didn't work, but holding down the middle button and the top button did reboot the iPod.
Greg, the reboot or Reset is done
- Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the next step
- Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
- Then release the buttons
- Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
When you press the Menu and pause button, you are trying to put the iPod in Disk Mode, but you must get the Apple Logo first, using step 2 above.
