Q: ipod classic 5th gen 30gb sound issues

hi all, i was hoping for some help, i have, as the title says, a 30gb black 5th generation ipod classic, and with a (monster brand) headphone jack video output cable was trying to play a video i bought from itunes on my tv

now with regular headphones both the sound and video work perfectly, but with the video out cable i only get video on the tv and no sound, or very very little sound, so is my ipod bad or is it the cable?

iPod classic, iOS 1.x

Doesn't the video output cable for iPod classic connect to the dock connector (not the headphone jack)?

In any case, the audio output for this purpose may be line level.  If so, that means the sound is not adjustable using the iPod's controls; the sound volume is meant to be adjusted on the TV.  Is the sound level so low that it cannot be raised to a desirable volume using the TV's volume controls.
