Q: When will Apple support SDXC on the iPad?

I have read the support thread here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4101 stating that SDXC is decidedly NOT supported. My question is basically: "When and how will this be fixed?"

My guess is that SDXC is not supported because of the new exFAT system used by these cards, so are we just waiting on an update in iOS, or is it limited by the hardware in the the SD card adapter? Or am I off base on why it isn't working?

I'm eager to find out because I just got a new camera that is not supported by the USB camera connection kit (iOS says it draws too much power) and now my brand new 32 GB SDXC card isn't supported either. So, short of purchasing a powered USB hub and connecting it to a wall wart, I have no way of transferring my photos from my camera to iPad while out on a shoot. Also, having already purchased all the adapters, I would prefer not to buy anything new; especially if a fix is imminent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if Apple Support staff were on here or not. I did search through the list of new features in iOS 6 and couldn't turn anything up. Oh well, I could have worse problems...

No, this is a user-to-user forum only. Even if they were they couldn't tell you about unannounced features anyway.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).

Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

No "fix" is imminent. Just go get an SDHC card instead of the SDXC card if you want a fast 32GB card.

So after pluged the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Can you watch the movies and read the photo directed from the card ??

No.
You must import them.

Getting a 16 GB iPad these days is asking for trouble. The apps are getting larger --just like bloatware back in the 1990s.

If you're just looking for storage space for media, you could look into getting a Seagate GoFlex Satellite. It's 500 GB and supports wireless streaming of your media to multiple devices concurrently.

These are VERY informative and helpful articles. THANKS! I don't know if I want to bite off that kind of a financial commitment right now though. I'll probably end up going with a USB Y-cable (<$10) to inject power into the system for now. It will be less mobile/convenient, but cheap. I'll just have to wait it out and see.
I wonder if something like this might work:

Kingston specifically mentions connecting discs to "tablets"; but again, to my original question though, if this is a file system issue, a simple adapter wouldn't work, right?
