I was using my laptop as usual and the keyboard just stopped working, tried the trackpad and it was also gone.  Used an USB mouse to get to preferences and no trackpas is being recognized by the laptop.  I wanted to activate bluetooth to use an external keyboard but no bluetooth device is recognized inside neither.

Rebooted, powered off & on, plugged the MagSafe connector, tried without power and then used the three-prong power cable plugged it into a grounded outlet.  No change, keyboard, trackpad and bluetooth are dead.

This laptop never showed any issues at all and, as I mentioned, I was working as usual with it.  Any tips or tricks to try to fix it?

Thanks,

JT

this is very strange!  Did your computer get any water damage of sort?  The only possibliltiy I can think of is that something happened to the acctual parts inside of the computer than can be blocking the circut there for not allowing things to work.  I would wait to see what other people would say, but if you are confirtable, I would open up the bottom of the computer (I dont know if mac airs can) and I would just lightly blow and make sure theres no dirt blocking anything.  Its odd how restarting didn't do anything.  On a mac air, can you remove the battery? If you can, remove it and leave it out or a minute or so.  Also, if you will remove the back, make sure its fully off, unplugged, and dont touch anything thing in side.  You dont want to short circut it. (That can also be a reason why) If nothing fixes it, just take it to the apple genus bar.  They will be able to fix it some how.

Very strange indeed. My laptop has never showed any software or hardware issues before and it has always been carefully stored, handled and charged.  There was nothing different in the way I was working with it today, as a matter of fact I was typing when everything went dead.

I would need to remove the bottom cover to get to the battery or any other connections and I'd rather not do that myself.  On the other hand I'm pretty sure that can void the warranty (if any at this point of time, I've had it for 11 months).  I'm currently overseas so I would need to wait for two weeks until I get back and have it physically checked.

Last thing I tried was to reset PRAM and NVRAM but when I power it on with the corresponding key combinations nothing changes, it just boots and that's it.

I have also noticed that the USB port on the right side of the laptop is dead, the one on the left is still working.

Any other suggestion will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    JT

try this.  turn of the computer. Then hold down the control key.  While holding it down, click the power button to turn it on.  Wait up to 20 seconds while holding it down.  Does a menu appear?  If it doesnt work with the control key, try command.  Im not sure, but i think its control.  If it does pop up,let me know.

None of the combinations work, it just boots normally.

ok, so that rules out that lion is corrupted.  The easy fix to that would be to restore lion from recovery.  So nothing work once computer is on?  You can even login then correct?

    Laptop boots normally.

lion can still work fine and still be corrupted.  Just some features can be corrupted.  Something was corrupted on lion, which still worked normally, but re installing it fixed the issue.

The only thing I can think to do is just go to an apple store and make an appointment for the genus bar. Its free to diagnos, and might cost money depending on the warrenty etc... Hope I helped!

    Hi Jaime

Did you find any solution to your problem? Because I'm in the same situation, randomly, my trackpad, my keyboard, the right usb and the bluetooth go dead. However, it sometimes works, and I've seen that in the hardware information of the macbook they are all conected to the same usb bus. Furthermore, in my case, when my macbook air is dead, if I shut it off (power button still works) I can't boot it again, it appears a grey screen, it sounds the starting sound, but it still sounds again and again and again... in that situation, the only thing I can do is waiting a few hours, then I can boot normaly, but in a few minutes, the situation starts again.

    Hi Alex,

There was no DIY fix, I took it to one of the stores and they replaced some HW (under 1yr warranty).  It's a shame but they were not clear about what was replaced and why did this happen.

Sorry, there are no tips/tricks I can provide on this one.

Thank you very much for your answer, it's what I feared... today, just after writing here, the keyboard, trackpad, etc. died, but I tried to push in the zone sourrounding the broken usb (just a little, I heard no cracks) and it suddenly became alive! so probably it's a probrem with some wire or something like that. I'll take it to an apple store, I hope mine is under warranty because it has 13 months, but I believe that here in Europe we have 2 years of warranty, we'll see.

    Again, thank you!

    Hi Alex,

Any luck on having Apple have this fixed.

I have the exact same issue as Jamie stated here.

    Hi

I talked to Apple's SAT and like my MBA was working while we talked, they did nothing... so I hope it won't break anymore.
