Q: Can the failed graphics card be bypassed?

I had the same problem happen a few days ago, triggered by putting my MacBook Pro 2/2008 in sleep mode after uploading video clips.

Was quoted $499 for fix-it replacement sine I missed the 4-year mark.

(I find this totally unacceptable business ethics and am extremely disappointed considering I spent $4000 on my MacBook Pro)

Anyway I am desperate to access my computer info & have brainstormed ways around this issue, and I'm not computer tech savvy.

Wondering if I can access my computer by fire wiring to my husbands MacBook without the video graphics card - just temporarily

Another squestion:  what cheaper graphics cards are available instead of what the Apple store quoted?
