MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

    Hi,

     

    I watched it for many times and I still think it's a software issue. Image retention or persistence is something that happens when you left the screen for an extended period of time.

     

    Still, doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with yours! just go to the store and show them your video. The video is the best thing you can show them and let us know please what caused that horrible situation.

    Return the unit. Stop rewarding Apple for releasing defective displays.

     

    Apple has a serious track record now of utterly ruining first release graphics and screens on these things. Wait 12 months and for everyone else to figure out the problems.

     

    Why anyone buys brand new MBP right at release anymore is beyond me. They never work right and are nothing but a hassle. 8 months after release, they're great.

    I think your right. I bought mine and just came back from the store to do a replacement. There seems to also be a problem with the thunderbolt too because 31g of data shouldn't take 4 hours to migrate.

    And keep in mind I'm not saying avoid Apple entirely. I just waited the 8 months for them to figure out all the broken crap before I paid for it.

     

    And this recommendation isn't coming from one or two years of experience, I've been buying MBP's since 2001. The retina unit will be TRULY ready probably in November or December.

    That depends on the number of files.  Try transferring one large file and see what your transfer rates are.  I get pretty amazing performance to the promise pegasus R6.

    hi,

     

    they found that they needed to update the thunderbolt. then it took 9 minutes...lol meanwhile i sat there for 3 hours. so far no display issues. Hope everyone also has good luck with their replacements.

    Those types of issues are actually something else.  It seems to be software related.  We have another thread going on that:

    Apple has actually contacted me by phone and I've been providing them information over the last three days, so they are definitely looking into it.

    Jason, I have to agree with you.  Got my first Mac around 2000, was a silver door Mac Pro and while it was worry free I got a 17 inch G4 Powerbook soon after and it was first gen.  That Powerbook was great for nearly 5 years but the little rubber feet at the bottom kept falling off so when I would use it on a desk it slid all around and so I had to use glue to glue the feet back on from time to time because Apple refused to accept that it was happening to me.  I sold it on ebay, but actually I regret that and wish I still had it today.

     

    Replaced that Mac with a first gen MacBook Pro Intel.  That computer ran so hot that they had to replace it and then that replacement had to be replaced nearly 1 year later because they botched up the keyboard replacing the fans that kept breaking.  That replacement (which was second gen intel) lasted me and still runs today after many upgrades to memory and HD.

     

    Your advise is solid, if you buy the first run of an Apple product be prepared for the possibility of returns and or issues.  Wish that wasn't true, but it is in some cases.  With that said, I'm sure that a lot of people got a great device that will last them 5 years. 

     

    Last two macs I added to my collection were a 2011 Mac Mini and 2011 Mac Book Air and both of them are A+ (altho the Mac Book Air creaks when I use it in bed on my lap)

     

    So while I'm in the market for a new Mac with some guts, I've been waiting for nearly 1 year and I will continue to wait.

    If no one buys any first-release products there will be no more 8-month theory for you! first of all. Second of all, problem with a first release is that everybody sees any topic and problem with that one more than the others because they are more concern about new product and they're right.

     

    Be fair, compare the number of people who bought MBPR and have any kind of problem, with the number of MBPR that they've already sold. I've been waiting for mine also and I'm concern too! I need it bad because I don't have any MAC computer and I need that because I'm developing app for iOS and it's gonna be my first MBP experience because I've been using PC for almost 11 years.

     

    I'm not scared, **** happens. That's how technology works. I hope mine will be OK, but if it wasn't I will return it until I get a good one. But not anyone can wait for few months to get a good one becuase the moment you buy one of these after 8 months you realize it could be one of those bad batch too! Why wasting time, if you need it buy one.

    You are welcome to rationlize buying defective hardware any way you like. I'm not saying avoid Apple products. I'm saying don't buy their first generation model Mac Book Pro machines. Let other people who are willing to pay top dollar to QC Apple's products for them.

     

    Then, when they've spent all their time and their money, buy in when the product is finished.

     

    I'm a very loyal Apple customer and we haven't bought a Wintel machine in years. Our house is full of their products. My grade school aged child has had an iTunes account since Kindergarten. But I also know that the past three MBP's I've bought on release that I've needed to work, didn't.

     

    But then again, you are probably right; you might just be the type of person willing to fill the role the rest of us need.

    Jason and Maziyar.  I agree with both of you, although I don't wait long enough for the 2nd gen to come out.  While I have used this support group for an occasional question, I use it mostly to track developing problems with newly released Apple products.  I did this first with the 1st gen Intel MBP back in 2006 and then the 1st gen duo core i7 MBP in 2010, both 17".  Both times I delayed purchase for 4 months or more as I monitored initial QC problems.   Both times I got mostly flawless machines despite many reported problems on this board.  (Later, the mother board on the 2006 model had to be replaced because of a faulty graphics chip.)

     

    Now I'm ready to buy another MBP and here I am monitoring reported probems again. The display problem in this thread seems to be the most active complaint.   Hopefully, most of the probems will be ironed out by the time I am ready to buy this fall.

    My local Best Buy has both base models in at $2199 and $2799. I bought the $2799 and I will abuse it for 59 days and take it back. Being a silver rewards member I have 60 days to return any item and no rerstocking fee. If i actually fall in love withit and the display is good ill keep it otheerwise Ill rent it for 59 days and take it back.

    You either need the **** thing or not! If you don't why even bothering yourself to buy it do u owe sth to Apple!? And if you need it just buy the machine and believe in after sell service like a very loyal Apple customer as you said!

     

    Anyway, don't come here and generalize your nine-month pregnancy theory and tell people how much you're smart! You call yourself very loyal Apple customer, well there was no reason to mention your off-topic idea at the first place. You're smart sir, sit over there and let rest of us fill the role for you!
