Jun 28, 2012 12:33 PM in response to Bass108by The hatter, the card really was not helping with a simple two drive array.
but backup the volume if you need the data, clone is fine, as once the card is gone so is the ability to access the volume's data.
It could be just the iPass cable needs to be connected back where it would or was on the logicboard.
the tech article on Apple Pro RAID card:
for some reason the tech note on identifying the card etc was updated on Monday

Jun 28, 2012 12:58 PM in response to The hatterby Bass108,So you're basically saying that once I take out the card then the drives need to be reformatted?

Jun 28, 2012 1:41 PM in response to Bass108by The hatter,3,1 = early 2008 = memory is FBDIMM DDR2 800MHz 1600MHz fsb and normally one or two 2.8GHz 4-core processors
yes, not being able to access means erase and format each, then if you want use software RAID in Disk Utility instead

Jun 28, 2012 2:15 PM in response to The hatterby Bass108,Ok, so when I remove it can I use a smaller PCI card like this in it's place?

Jun 28, 2012 6:21 PM in response to Bass108by Grant Bennet-Alder,Disk Utility can build you a new RAID, Striped, Mirrored, or JBOD, but all indications are that it cannot take over a RAID Utility (with the RAID Card) RAID.
So yes, you will have to reformat.

Jun 29, 2012 9:12 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby Bass108,Ok, well I read up some more and get that I can put the x1 where the x16 card would go but I'm not exactly clear about all the different speeds of the lanes in my 2008 tower. The 2008 has 2 slots (with 2.0 revision which is double the data transfer. So do I want to move everything around to have the USB 3.0 card in slot 2? I'm just confused because when I read about this, it says the 2.0 revisions are for the x16 slots and that can't be case because my RAID card (x16) is in slot 4.

Jun 29, 2012 9:43 AM in response to Bass108by Grant Bennet-Alder,from the AppleSpec for 2008 model Mac Pro:
PCI Express expansion7
- Three open full-length PCI Express expansion slots
- One PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot
- Two PCI Express x4 slots
- All slots provide mechanical support for 16-lane cards
- 300W combined maximum for all PCI Express slots
- Three open full-length PCI Express expansion slots

Jun 29, 2012 10:07 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby Bass108,Does it make a difference to have a usb 3.0 card on 2.0 slot?
-
Jun 29, 2012 10:21 AM in response to Bass108by Grant Bennet-Alder,USB 3 refers to the revision of the USB side of the card.
PCIe 2 refers to revision of the PCIe side of the card.
There is no conflict whatsover.

Jun 29, 2012 10:37 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby Bass108,You don't have to talk to me like a peon. I get that either will work. Obviously there was a revision to PCI for a reason which to my understanding is fast data transfer. So doesn't it seem right to say that by not using the 2.0 slot it will be inferior for a USB 3.0 card? A simple yes or no with an explanation would be nice.
