Mar 19, 2012 10:23 PM in response to Mick1968by Malcolm J. Rayfield,If the PC uses dual-link DVI and can support 2560 x 1600 resolution, and the 27" display is not the Thunderbolt version, you can use this converter

There are switches, such as

Mar 20, 2012 2:54 AM in response to Mick1968by X423424X,Of course the problem is that that Atlona KVM is marked as "discontinued" at their site. However a google search of "mini displayport kvm" shows that they still can be found (at least the search points to sources but I didn't check if those sources actually have that kvm in stock).
Also note that you can get a much cheaper dual link DVI adapter from monoprice.com.

(missed the forum edit timeout to update my post...again)

Apr 10, 2012 12:27 PM in response to Malcolm J. Rayfieldby lexdave,Atlona has got to out of their minds. For $200 I could buy a great new video card that has a mini display port out built right in! Has no one found a better solution for this?

Why would anyone sell a monitor and not provide a solution for 90% of the computers in use today?
No DVI or no HDMI solution for a $1,000.00 monitor?

Jun 27, 2012 11:13 AM in response to Mick1968by Mick1968,Thanks Guys,
I ended up buying a Kanex adaptor, about $130 I think. Didn't work, sent it back, still waiting 3 months later for my refund.
I'm just going to forget the whole thing, and have separate monitors for the mac and the pc.
Oh, and my advice is to avoid Kanex like the plague - their customer service is useless

Jun 28, 2012 4:03 AM in response to Mick1968by -jim,Well, my condition is a little different.
I want to conenct my HD camera direct to the LED display.
Why would Apple not provide a solution for this?
HDMI the standard for all video devices and Apple has chosen not to provde the standard interface or AFAIK, a way to obtain one.

HDMI is limited to 1920 x 1200, so would not be uable with the 27" display.

Jun 29, 2012 1:03 AM in response to Malcolm J. Rayfieldby -jim,First, HDMI is not limited to any one resolution and as of HDMI 1.3 has an capability of 2560×1600 which I think is higher than the 27" display.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
Oh, and obiously, the LED Display can go to lower resoltution.
Supported resolutions: 2560 by 1440 pixels, 1920 by 1080 pixels, 1280 by 720 pixels
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP597
And under System preferences, it looks like it will go from 800x600 to 2560x1440.

Jul 2, 2012 10:53 PM in response to Mick1968by zz10,Would the 27" LED works on PC on a resolution of 2550x1600 if I get a GPU , say 7850, with mini-display port?

Feb 24, 2015 12:18 PM in response to Mick1968by manaman,I know this question was asked ages ago, but you could just get a female-female mini displayport coupler, then a mini displayport - DVI male adapter. total cost about 2o bucks...

Yes, but it won't work. A Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter is for connecting a DVI display to a computer's Mini DisplayPort. When the computer detects the adapter it switches to DVI mode and the adapter sends the DVI signals to a DVI connector. A DVI computer can't output DisplayPort signals, so a simple adapter can't work. You need a converter, which is a lot more complicated (and expensive).

Jun 1, 2016 7:06 PM in response to Mick1968by JJ163,I would suggest getting a Mini Displayport graphics card like the PNY Nvidia GTX 970 or the Sapphire AMD R9 380 to drive the Cinema Display to it's full potential. If the case for your PC can't accommodate it, if your PC has Thunderbolt, you could purchase an eGPU (external graphics card) to have a direct connection between graphics card and display. Do keep in mind, I looked all though Newegg and I could only suggest these two as they are decently modern in today's world and have decent specs.
