Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53) on a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro.

I have researched this for a couple of days, but nothing really frames the issue or solution properly for what I am experiencing.

I get an Invite from an Outlook user (via Exchnage) and the invite shows up as an email with the repsonse options, Decline, Maybe, Accept, etc.

However, choosing "Accept" sends the mail, but does not add it to iCal. I have everything synced properly from what i can tell. However, if I somehow manage to find the .ICS file as an attachment, and double click it, it adds fine to iCal.

Is there away to:

Get Mac Mail to display the .ICS invites as attachments and not emails?

    Have you tried this?

In Mail/Preferences/General you can choose Automatically under Add invitations in iCal:

In iCal/Preferences/Advanced you can check Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail.

Are you receiving the ics invite to an Exchange email address by any chance?

If so, have you added the Exchange account to iCal? If you haven't, then the email will be deleted when you choose the response but the event will NOT be added to iCal. You have to add the Exchange account into iCal and enable it for the event to add from an Outlook invite sent to Mail:

In iCal: iCal > Preferences > Accounts > + > Account type = Exchange > add email address and password.

Make sure "Enable this account" is ticked.

Hope this helps - I had been very frustrated by this problem and only just worked out the solution today. It worked for me so I'll keep my fingers crossed...
