Same problem here, first gen iPod touch, exactly as described by the OP. Download button appears to have changed to an arrow, but touching it does not result in a download, what happened Apple, please fix!!

Same here. Nothing happens on my 2nd gen Ipod touch, but podcasts will download on my iPhone 4 IOS 5.
Also, the "DOWNLOADS >" area in iTunes has vanished.

I have the same problem on my 1st gen Touch. I even went as far as to reset my iPod to the factory settings and start from scratch, but it just did the same thing. Since it happened to Scott's 2nd gen as well I'm assuming Apple made some kind of change to the mobile iTunes store that has broken podcast functionality on earlier models or earlier OS's. Hopefully this is just an accident and a fix is coming soon.

Same problem as the original post. Using a 1st gen Ipod with 3.1.3.

Okay, so it appears that the podcast section of iTunes is now back to normal on my 1st gen Touch, and I can once again download podcasts straight to my iPod, but now the app store is acting all screwy. When you click on the button to download an app the buttons graphics get weird and jumbled looking, and though you can click the green "download" button it just turns blue, and the iPod sits there doing nothing. Anyone else getting this new problem? Hopefully they will get their act together soon and get it all back to working like usual.

Yep, we have two Gen 1 iPod touches here both exhibiting the exact same symptoms.
Hope Apple fix it quickly, as we cannot purchase any apps at the moment... It will be costing them revenue, as well as having dissatisfied customers (if they actually care about that).
