Odd.. I'd check that an audio device is still selected in the Audio preferences. You can always try trashing the app's preferences (user/library/preferences/com.apple.mainstage.plist) to reset all those settings.

While you try to get back the cpu meter in the instruments bar (i think personalizing it you should be able to add it again) remember you can also set up a meter in the MS layout and connect it to the cpu at the concert level so you don't need it in the upper part.
Someone reported having cpu hog problems with the cpu meter on the upper part.

No, the CPU load is not increased by the CPU meter. That would be silly. The removal of the CPU meter was recommended to work-around a bug in 10.7.4, but if you are on MainStage 2.2.2 or any other version of OS X you are not affected by it and can leave the CPU meter in place.
