My wife tried to save a webpage to pdf and now its memory is bizzare.

We had a memory tool open to show available memory.  I see the memory simply

vanish after turning it on for 30 seconds from a fresh boot without any programs running.

some kind of mdwork program used cpu and then the memory when away.

Are you sure no programs were running. By default Lion automatically resumes all the programs that were running when the computer was shut down. One fast way to see what programs are running (at least those that aren't 'faceles') is to hold command and tab.

Faceless programs are those that don't show up on the Dock. To see every programming that is running, launch Activity Monitor

You may be right that a program is running however it's faceless and I cannot identity it before the computer crashes

Restart the computer and hold the shift key until the apple logo appears. This is a safe boot and no programs should auto start. After e safe boot is complete restart normally.

In safe mode it does not crash

    Resetting again to normal mode

It crashed again within 30 seconds

    Thanks for the input

The mac people ran diagnostics and everything was fine

However at home again the problem persisted

Therefore I sat on the activity monitor and crushed the mdworkers as they took my memory.

    Oddly it's all good now

    Very Strange indeed

    Thanks again I learned something
