So nothing appears on the iPod's display when you connect it to your PC? What happens if you place the iPod into Disk Mode first?
Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC?
What happens if you do a hard reset of the device with it still connected? To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Thanks for trying to help
Disk mode did not work, when I did this, it got stuck at the "OK to Disconnect" screen when it was connected and not connected.
Yes I am using USB 2.0.
The hard reset also did not work and it just showed the same screen as before I reset it.
Would this possible be a problem with the connector on the ipod itself?

Definitely a possibility. Does it show up when you connect it to another Mac or PC running iTunes? Does it charge still when you connect it to your PC?
Are they are any other USB devices you have plugged in minus your keyboard and mouse?

It doesn't show up or charge on either computer that I use and I only have the keyboard mouse and ipod connected at the same time.
I don't think it is the cord that is the problem because I can still use the same cord to charge through an outlet.
