Q: Why is the Error Code 0x8002006E While Burning the Disc?

Hey there! I don't seem to get through this Issue. I was trying to burn content to a Disc and it failed with the error code 0x8002006E, while the process was almost complete. I came across a few forums and nothing helped much to resolve this problem. Is there someone who knows the exact cause? Is this is a known-issue or anything already being addressed by Apple? Or a work-around to get this resolved? because i also read (did not try) that no third-party applications, as an alternative, solved this Issue. Disappointed! Help!

Model: iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)

OS: Lion OS X 10.7.4

I have the latest software updates and Firmware updates installed.

Thank you,

Sivarama Krishnan (kvsrkrishnan)

For all who are trying to help or already facing the same problem, every remedy mentioned in this thread including dumping the plist file: > library > Preferences > com.apple.finder.plist. No matter what i do, all i get is : "Disk could not be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new blank disc"

    I found this article excerpt:

The few solution that where found where by calling at Apple and get technical support. There are a few solutions that might work.

The first one would be Go to users > your computer name / user name > library > Preferences > com.apple.finder.plist and delete this file. Also it’s advised to keep the burn speed at 8x.

The second solution found that Apple technical support gave is to unplug everything, including the AC power cord and then remove the battery. Press the power button for 10 seconds without replacing the battery or attaching the AC power cord and after the 10 seconds are up replace the battery. After the battery is in slot hold down the following keys with the left hand: Option + Apple (command) + R and with the right hand hold down the following keys: P + Power Button. You will need to hold all 5 of these buttons at the same time until you hear both sets of startup chimes Release all of the 5 buttons after you hear the two startup chime sounds.

    Hope this helps

I had read (but can't find it now) that some DVD manufacturers make disks that are too thick/thin and this can cause a problem. Try another brand of disk, even a maunfacturer that worked before may have changed their DVDs.

And i restarted the Computer a ten times trying to make an attempt on second option, but no luck. Is there someone who is running Windows on iMac (Not MacBook Air/Mini) ? I need help!

I have tried Samsung, Moserbaer discs.. I read users having this Issue also tried manufacturers like Sony, Imation etc. Besides, i don't think it is a problem related to disc. Thanks anyways!

That's a low level catch all error for the DVD drive usually indicates a hardware problem. If your iMAc is still under Apple Care you should schedule an apportionment t to have it checked out.

One other thing to try if you haven;t already is to rest the PRAM and SMC see

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

for details. It's not likely to help but its worth a shot.

    good luck

I'm guessing everything being posted here has been posted a number of times in the many threads on this topic.  Look at the More Like This section on the right side of this page (and their More Like This, and so on).

Thank you for that. Unfortunately, your guess doesn't solve my problem. I have wandered everywhere already.

Having the same problem, but when I go to Library>Preferences, there isn't even a com.apple.finder.plist file to begin with. Could this be at the root of my problem? Tried burning at a slower speed, and got same error message. Using a MacbookPro OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

As I wrote the error you're getting is usually an indication of a hardware error, resetting the PRAM and SMC were really long shots and not likely to have fixed the problem.

If you have Applecare you should take in the system and have it checked out. If not you might want to look at portable DVD players. USB ones now are relatively cheap.

In response to RRFS: I think you're right. There may be a problem with the disks. I tried burning to some Memorex DVD's that I just bought and kept getting the same error message. Then I erased an old Imation DVD and it worked fine. The Memorex CD seems to be a bit thicker. I thought I might try disk repair, but it didn't even show up in disk utility.
