Select a word file and use command - i to open the info pane.  Select the Word Program for "open with" and set as "use as default" "Change All"

    Any other ideas?

It did not do that in the begining.  Would deleting and re install word be a good idea?

    Thanks

I doubt it but it can't hurt I suppose. I've seen one or two threads about this and will post if I come across anything further.
