Q: Camera Compatibility?

I am using iPhoto v9.3

Is there a list of compatible and incompatible cameras?

I have 2 great Sony cameras, but they don't play nicely with iPhoto.

I wish to buy a waterproof digital video camera and I want to make sure I purchase a camera whose format is readily accesible to iPhoto.

Thanks

The only compabitbility lists if for RAW formats: OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats.

If a camera have a removable  memory card then it can be read by iPhoto using a card reader.

What exactly does this mean? I have two Sony cmaeras and have had three or four prior - all work great with iPhoto

Remember iPhoto is a Photo manager - not a video manager although it does do a limited amount of video - it is designed around digital still cameras

My Sony Handcam saves videos in a format that iPhoto does not recognize.  MPEG1, I think.

The photo/video distinction you make may a limitation to iPhoto I didn't readily recognize.  I'd like to be able to save videos from a video camera into iPhoto with the same ease as those from an iPhone.

Is this possible with videos made on non-Apple devices?

    Thanks

Videos from a handicam must be imported into iMovie.  Videos made with digital still cameras can be imported into iPhoto along with the still photos.

It is for videos made with my Sony still cameras (currently a Soney Alpha 55 and DSV HX5) - vidoe cameras that include some still capabillity and not as successful based on reports
