Jul 24, 2010 10:49 PM in response to John_Sby Mulderscully,You should be able to. It would be especially useful if you have a dock. You can put your iPad in the dock so it's upright and sync your wireless keyboard with the iPad. Then you have your own mini desktop.
From a help article...
"Follow the instructions that came with the Bluetooth accessory to make it discoverable or to set it to search for other Bluetooth accessories. This may involve entering a passkey or PIN (Personal Identification Number).
From the Home screen, choose Settings > General > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on. iPad searches for nearby Bluetooth accessories.
Choose the Bluetooth accessory, and then enter a passkey or PIN.
Bluetooth headset: Refer to the documentation for the headset to determine the passkey.
Bluetooth keyboard: Type the passcode displayed on the iPad on the keyboard and then return.
When pairing is complete, you can use the Bluetooth accessory with your iPad. -
Jul 25, 2010 3:20 AM in response to John_Sby lllaass,Only the newer Apple keyboards work with the iPad. The white A1016 ones do not work. -
Jul 25, 2010 6:49 AM in response to lllaassby John_S,Thank you. Is there any easy way to test my keyboard out? It is about 2 years old and isn't the model number you mentioned. -
Jul 25, 2010 7:31 AM in response to John_Sby Tamara,If it is the aluminum keyboard, it should work fine. The Apple white bluetooth keyboard won't work. -
Jul 25, 2010 7:34 AM in response to Tamaraby John_S,Interesting. I have the aluminum one (the back is white of course). It is model A1255. I turned on the bluetooth on the ipad and it didn't find it. Is there a special key I need to hit on the keyboard to make it want to pair the device? -
Jul 25, 2010 7:50 AM in response to John_Sby Tamara,If it is already paired with another device, you have to go into that machine's settings and disconnect the keyboard. -

Jul 25, 2010 9:26 PM in response to Mulderscullyby enderx,You may have posted instructions but John_S had problems pairing the device. So I posted a link to a video that shows you have to unpair the keyboard from your imac before you can pair it with your iPad. The person above me mentioned the unpairing but didn't say how to do it so I posted the link on how to do it.
edit: I just realised you were replying to John_S but your post wouldn't have helped anyway because his iPad wasn't discovering the keyboard.

Jul 26, 2010 5:17 AM in response to enderxby John_S,After all that it worked. Thanks for the help. The video was great. I didn't realize you had to push the outside button of the keyboard to do the pairing. -
Jul 10, 2012 8:02 AM in response to lllaassby Midston,Hi,
Why you say so?
I found the below page and it shows that the old white apple wireless keyborad IS SUPPORTED by ipad. Could you help to check if there is anything wrong? Thanks.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4112
- Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries.
In addition, many third-party Bluetooth keyboards that use the Apple keyboard layout are also compatible. Check with the keyboard manufacturer for additional information.

Jul 10, 2012 8:28 AM in response to Midstonby paulcb,You posted to a thread that is 2 years old. A lot can change in the tech world in 2 years.

Jul 10, 2012 9:43 AM in response to Midstonby Menneisyys,It is NOT supported, believe me, I also have one (along with the newer models).
BTW, the page you link to explicitly states this in the preceeding sentence:
"The original Apple Wireless Keyboard, introduced in 2003, is not compatible:
- Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries."

Jul 10, 2012 9:44 AM in response to paulcbby Menneisyys,Unfortunately, there is no change. The first Apple BT keyboard has remained incompatible - Midston has just forgotten to read the preceeding sentence.
