Q: I made an accidental purchase and cannot pay for it just yet and iTunes will not cancel the order and now I cannot download a free app because of this, this is RIDICULOUS and UNACCEPTABLE in my opinion.

Ok I am new to iTunes and iPhone and so far it has been a very disappointing experience.  I accidently purchased an item and had no way to pay for it because my debit card had no money.  I emailed support and they were of no help to me.  Said I HAD to pay for it, I cannot download anything not even FREE apps. They have NO flexibility what-so-ever.  They need an option to cancel within like 10 minutes of a selection, God forbid, that would be too easy, it is their way to always get money from you.  Terrible experience and quite frankly I will no longer be associating with itunes from this point forward...

In 10 minutes you would have downloaded the app, then you would have obtained it for free if you could cancel it. It isn't a department store where you can hand the purchase back to the assistant.

If you refuse to pay for your purchases, then I doubt that itunes wants you to associate with them.

Once you click on an item it downloads.  In the days of electronic data it is very easy to make copies.  It's not like you taking a book back to the bookstore. I guess they could set up a system by which they coded each of your apps and songs and movies and required you to be online before you could do anything with your computer so it could call Apple and check you were using an authorized version (just hear the screams of "Big Brother!").  Without that they have no way of knowing you were honest and deleted the download from your computer.

I guess  prohibiting the download of free items is a way of putting on the pressure to encourage people to pay up debts.

In the iTunes receipt which will be (or maybe already has been) emailed to you, click on the Report a Problem link. After following the steps, one of the options is "I inadvertently purchased this item." Select that.
